Sydney Harbour Bridge


Introduction


The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sdney Harbour that carries transportation between the Sydney central business district and the north shore. The nickname given to bridge is "Coasthanger" as of it arch-based design.




The Bridge

The bridge was designed and build by British firm and opened in 1932. The design was heavily influenced by the Hell Gate in New York and is currently the world's widest spanning arch bridge in the world. It is also the tallest steel arch bridge measuriing 134 metres from top to water level. 

Facts

  1. Bridge is 503 meters long
  2. It is the hightest point, the arch is 134m above the sea level.
  3. The Sydney Harbour Bridge climb was opened in 1998
  4. It took over 1,300 men and 8 years to build
  5. It tooked 30,000 liters of paint to cover the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
